Looking for a couple of birth notified weaner boars which we can fatten and then pick one to keep as a second boar for our herd. Need to be birth notified as will want to register one of them. Needs to be within a reasonable distance of Ipswich.
Currently have Princess and Josephine sows. Only consideration is that they are not to closely related to our sows.

May well be able to help you out from the litter that I had last week. I haven’t birth notified yet but will do, and I just need to confirm if someone who provisionally booked two will be having them or not.
I’ll get back to you shortly…..we’re just south of Stowmarket, so would be quite convenient!
They are out of Alsa Princess Joan 520 and Exfold Gerald 62.
Thanks

SuffolkWill definitely have 2 spare, so you can have first choice out of 8 boars if you want to.

SuffolkWe have looked at the family trees of the parents of your weaners and unfortunately their grandfather is the father of one of our sows and we kept four of her first litter so your weaners also have the same grandfather as those four. This is a bit closely related.
I’m afraid that we can not have any of that litter but was wondering if you had anything else?
Georgina
Thats a shame. Unfortunately nothing else.
Thanks

SuffolkSorry to intrude BUT a good pig is a good pig and a grandparent on one side of the pedigree is far less important than bad legs/cofirmation etc
Quite agree but personally I prefer to breed from pigs that are not as closely related. Mildred’s (our sow) father is the same as the weaners grandfather and for us that is too close. We like to keep the genes spread more. Of course when picking our new boar we will be looking for good legs/conformation and all of the other things that make a good boar but we also want it to be not as closely related.

I would not disagree ,that the course you are taking is the correct one. I was trying to point out that in my opinion it is not the first ,or top priority , when selecting a boar to use on my herd. You would be horrified to look at some of the pedigrees of my Belted Galloways where many breeders positivly believe in keeping things in the family ! A bull may well serve daughters and grand daughters in the belief they are breeding “in ” good traits . Something I would never consider with pigs .
AnonymousHi Georgina. I have a smallholding near Diss and have two litters about to be birth notified. Alsa Princess 423 and Alsa Princess 424 both by Delacthon Rufus 4. If these may be of interest please let me know.
Steve H-JDear Steve
How much are you looking to sell the boars for?

I don’t know I’m new to all this and these are my first weaners. How about giving me a call and/or dropping in to have a look. I’m sure we can come to some agreement if they are suitable for your needs.
