I recently saw a member of the public throwing food over the fence into one of our pig paddocks (contains four young boars). Unfortunately it was some distance away and I wasn’t quick enough to get out and have words. I intend putting a sign up on the fence stating ‘do not feed the pigs’ but thought it might carry a bit more weight if I quoted on the sign the regulation regarding ‘not feeding kitchen waste’ and the maximum penalty this carries etc.
The defra website is driving me batty at the moment trying to find it. Can anyone help please.

    Try this: http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalhealth/Illegal-feeding/index.html

One problem is that virtually all Defra docs talk about ‘food waste’ and most members of the public don’t relate their ham roll to ‘food waste’ so you may need to do some judicious editing of the words to meet your needs. Good luck. They drive you mad don’t they?
