ParticipantIt is not likely the gilts you have will be suitable for breeding. When a breeder sells weaners , and the purchaser asks for specific purposes (in your case for eating) the selection of breeding quality is determined at that point. Bad teats, dummy teats , twisted leg……any number of faults may be carried by your pigs . That is the reason they would have been sold to go into the food chain.
You could always ask the breeder if such selection took place , and if not too far from you to look at the pigs with a critical eye as to their breeding quality. You must also remember the only person who can Pedigree register the gilts is the origonal owner/breeder and not yourself.
If you sell the gilts for breeding as they are at the moment they are pigs…..not Gloucestershire Old Spot Pedigree pigs.stephen booth

ParticipantWith regard to the rules for importation i suggest you speak to your vet or Trading Standards office , who will be able to give you the appropriate Ministry contact number. No doubt the Ministry office would give you all the required information re paperwork , blood tests etc that would be appropriate. They should also have names of people who have gone through this process before . Not sure if data protection would allow them to give too many details or not of such individuals.Certainly pigs have been imported to the AI centre at Deerpark before.
Hope thats a start for you at least, and good luck.stephen booth

ParticipantIf your sows or gilts have not had birth notified litters , then the BPA will not have them as “live”. On the computer at the BPA the term “live” means breeding pure pigs and notifying them , as oppose to “live” as in breathing !!. Any “dead” pigs would return as a live one on any future notification. Hope this helps. Any pedigree transfer would NOT be hampered
