It is not possible to over emphasise the importance of the boar. The old adage “the boar is half the herd” hardly does justice to his influence. Indeed some would go as far as to say the boar was nearer 80% of the herd. Your boar possesses the power to make or mar the herd of the future. An animal inherits its character in two equal parts, one of which comes from the sire, the other from the dam. The potential capacity of a sow to produce milk for her offspring also comes from both parents so how do
you gauge the influence of the boar? This can only be done by indirect methods and is mainly the evidence of the ability of the milking capacity of his female offspring ie in their capacity to rear good litters. A good boar can also compensate for the weaker points in the females of the herd in which he is to be used. Below are the 2023 survey figures for our boar lines.
